I launched this site today while my domain is still hostage.
The transfer lock at my old registrar isn't lifted yet. A ticket with their support is in. At any other point in my career that would have been the thing that delayed the launch by a week, because it sounded serious. Today it doesn't matter at all — and that is the actual lesson.
The registrar lock controls who owns the name at ICANN. It does not control where the domain resolves. Nameservers do. Mine already point to Cloudflare, so DNS works, email routes, the site renders. Different layer, different clock. The thing I was afraid of lived on a layer I didn't need yet.
That's most of the paralysis I see in real estate transformation projects. A blocker shows up on the least-load-bearing layer of the system, and the entire program stops to negotiate around it. The data team stops shipping the dashboard because legal hasn't signed off on a different piece of data. The smart building rollout stalls because the adoption plan is in a draft nobody reviewed. The MJOB migration pauses because the vendor is behind on a feature unrelated to the work in progress.
Ship through it. Finish the part that works. The lock gets lifted when it gets lifted.
One more note, because it's the actual thesis of the place I'm building: I wrote almost none of this site by hand. I took a shower. While I was in the shower, a few AI agents worked in parallel on different parts of it — the hero, the copy, the design tokens — while the harness stitched them together. I came back twenty minutes later and the site was building.
That is the whole point of what I'm doing. You don't need permission from the registrar. You don't need a department. You need tools, a direction, and the willingness to push through the last ten percent that every other consultant politely walks away from.
